University of Otago sports science student Annika Levestam made the decision on Tuesday night to go to Christchurch and self-isolate at her parents’ house.
‘‘We’re driving up there today — mum would feel better if I was up there.
‘‘Heaps of students are leaving Dunedin.’’
Otago Polytechnic nursing student Shahlei Hewitson said her course had moved online, which made it easy to self-isolate in Christchurch at home.
‘‘We’ll come back when it’s lifted.’’
Her flatmate from Auckland had decided not to go home due to the cost and uncertainty of flying.
Student learning at both the University of Otago and the Otago Polytechnic had gone digital in the wake of Covid-19.
