Dunedin music fans will have an opportunity chance to catch two award-winning female performers over the next week.

Jess Chambers, who won the 2009 New Zealand Country Music Awards with her song Stringing Me Along and is a finalist for the Apra Silver Scroll Award for another track, Island, is visiting the South as part of her debut solo tour.

"I'm looking forward to playing my solo material. I'll be playing songs from the Firefly Orchestra album, The Woolshed Sessions album and road-testing material for a new album to be released next year," says Chambers, who will perform at Oamaru's Penguin Club tonight, the Fortune Theatre, Dunedin, tomorrow and Wanaka's Cinema Paradiso on Thursday.

Chambers' live shows have a reputation for being intimate.

"I like to think my music speaks for itself. I... hope it resonates with whoever is listening."

Another strong songwriter, Julia Deans, brings her Melbourne-based three-piece Fur Patrol to Chick's Hotel, Port Chalmers, on Friday.

"We're pretty excited about this trip, as it's the first time we've managed to get down to Dunedin in ages," says Deans, who won Best Female Vocalist at the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards.

The band is promoting a new video for the single Little Fists, off its 2008 album Local Kid.
