Man found unconscious on footpath

A 40-year-old man remains in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital's Intensive Care Unit after he was found unconscious on a Masterton footpath yesterday morning.

The man was found on the footpath of an Essex Street house near the intersection with Pownall Street about 6am yesterday, Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen said.

"The man was initially taken to Masterton Hospital by Ambulance but was later airlifted to Wellington Hospital,'' he said.

A Capital and Coast District Health Board spokesman said the man was in a serious but stable condition in ICU this morning.

Police were yet to determine the circumstances which led to the man receiving his injuries.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the man in central Masterton after 1am early Saturday morning.

The 40-year-old man is described as European, clean shaven with and wearing a black bomber-style jacket, dark blue denim jeans and black boots.
