Acting Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of the Southern District command centre, said emergency services were called to the accident just after 2.30pm.
The man driving the car was taken to Dunedin Hospital with minor injuries by a St John ambulance, Snr Sgt Butterfield said.
No other vehicles were involved.
