Main South Rd Green Island was swarming with residents and visitors during a successful annual market day on Saturday.

One of the market day organisers, Lee Cheshire, said the three things she had enjoyed most had been the "atmosphere, weather and people".

The market featured 115 stalls, up from 92 last year, and the weather was fine and without the wind which had come up last year, Mrs Cheshire said.

The event's atmosphere was "wonderful" and, as it became better known, the market seemed to improve every year.

"It's nice to see people smiling and happy and this is what it seems to create."

Mrs Cheshire, who is a member of the Green Island Business Association's committee, said fellow committee member Barbara Archer and association president John Moyle had also helped organise the market event.

A section of Main South Rd was closed to traffic during the three-hour market, which began at 10am, and many arts and crafts creations had been on sale, organisers said.
