A man who was allegedly found slumped over his steering wheel after crashing his vehicle, with an imitation pistol on his lap, has been denied bail.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said the 41-year-old man was found crashed into a fence in Maryhill Tce at 5.40am yesterday.
Officers smashed a window of the vehicle to reach the sleeping man and discovered the firearm, which, according to court documents, was an 8mm blank Glock pistol.
The defendant appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday on charges of carrying an imitation firearm and aggravated disqualified driving.
He was declined bail by Judge Jim Large and will appear in court again next month.
