Funding boost for poor paths

A funding boost should help address the slipping standards of Dunedin's footpaths, the Dunedin City Council says.

The reassurance came after Cr Mike Lord asked for a staff review on how Dunedin's streets compared with those in other centres.

Council transport group manager Richard Saunders said an NZ Transport Agency audit had noted the council was failing to deliver on its renewal spending budgets, and the results were starting to show.

The council had lifted its game and delivered on 100% of its roading renewal budget in the past two years, but footpaths remained in poor condition in some cases, he said.

As a result, the council was increasing footpath renewal spending by $27 million, or $2.7million a year over the life of the 10-year plan.

An NZTA subsidy was also expected for the first time, although the exact amount was not yet known, he said.

What a load of rubbish, With the Cull having the golden ticket of the fast internet why doesn't the DCC embrace an mobile app that the Goal coast council utilise. It allows people to register and report: abandoned shopping trolleys, abandoned vehicles
footpaths, graffiti, illegal camping, illegal dumping, illegal parking, landscaping, park bins, park equipment, pothole, street signs, street sweeping, water leaks and other issues. it would be on a Priority based system but be aware it will highlight how bad the DCC really is.
