A car rolled on to its roof after side-swiping a parked vehicle in a 50kmh area of State Highway 1 in central Dunedin yesterday.

The Mitsubishi Galant sedan  blocked the left lane of the highway heading north in Malcolm St after the crash about 9am.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said the driver, the only occupant, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance officers but was not taken to hospital.

Police said the car was towed at 10.15am, which allowed both lanes to be reopened.

It was at least the fourth  crash in Dunedin since March in which a single vehicle being driven in a 50kmh zone has rolled.

Shortly after emergency services were called to that crash, a truck was reported to have blocked the road on Dunedin’s Southern Motorway, heading north, just before the Lookout Point Fire Station.

It appeared as though the truck had broken down and a tow truck was at the scene at 9.45am.
