Hitting sweet notes in the Octagon

Mass singing by about 200 singers from the Sweet Adelines New Zealand women's barbershop chorus made a big impression in the Octagon last night.

This is the first time in the organisation's 32-year history that barbershop choruses from throughout the country have come to Dunedin to perform, in the body's national competition and convention.

The musical events began on Thursday and end tomorrow.

Sweet Adelines New Zealand events co-ordinator Hilary Clifton said Dunedin had proved a hit venue.

Residents had responded positively and had been welcoming throughout and ``we're incredibly grateful'', she said.
