Cargill Enterprises general manager Derek King said they collected 197 televisions for recycling on Wednesday, the first day they were included in the programme.
Many more were dropped off for the $5 recycling fee yesterday, he said.
''The public are ...making sure we retain the work and income locally. Hopefully, there are a lot more collection days to come like this.''
Cargill Enterprises had a government subsidy quota to collect 1359 sets for the $5 fee and was the only Dunedin company in the scheme to be dismantling the television sets.
Smiths City Andersons Bay manager Vick Veera said Smiths City had a quota of 10,000 sets nationwide and televisions collected at the Dunedin store would be transported to Christchurch and Invercargill for recycling.
The Andersons Bay store had received 1100 unwanted television sets for recycling in the past four days, he said.
