A police spokeswoman said officers were called to Pigeon Flat, north of Dunedin, at 10.45am on Friday, after a person was allegedly threatened with a firearm during an argument between two neighbours concerning stock on the boundary between their properties.
"The incident was reported to have occurred around half an hour before police were called and the alleged offender had left his property in a vehicle prior to police arrival," the spokeswoman said.
"The alleged offender — a 34-year-old man — was subsequently located at a second property in Dunedin. When spoken to, he provided information about an air rifle at the first property, which police later located.
"Police can confirm nobody was injured during this incident and there is no public safety risk."
The Otago Daily Times saw an armed officer standing next to a police vehicle stopping vehicle movements between Pigeon Flat Rd and Dunedin-Waitati Highway (State Highway 1) at the Leith Saddle at the time of the police response.
The spokeswoman was yesterday unable to answer further questions on the size of the police response or if police expected to lay charges.
