Motorcyclist gives police the slip

A motorcyclist made a quick getaway across a cricket pitch during a police pursuit in Dunedin this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said a pursuit of a person on a dirt bike began at 2.31pm on Corstorphine Rd.

The chase lasted less than two minutes before police called it off, and inquiries were ongoing, she said.

It was unclear why the pursuit was initiated.

A witness said he saw the person on the bike take off across a nearby cricket ground, giving police the slip.
