Emergency services rescue a patient after a fall near the Soldier’s Memorial in Highcliff Rd on Otago Peninsula.

The patient’s son said his mother was walking up to the memorial with her grandson. They had made it to the top, but she took a tumble and was injured in the process.

He said the entire family was "extremely grateful" to all of the emergency services who came to help her.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said firefighters were called at 11.24am yesterday to help transport the person to an ambulance after a fall.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said the person was assessed at the scene and transported to Dunedin Hospital.
