Road rage incident escalates after metal bat pulled out

Police are investigating a road rage incident that allegedly resulted in a Dunedin man being threatened with a metal bat at a set of traffic lights.

Constable Nick Turner said police were called to Hillside Rd in South Dunedin about 4.30pm yesterday.

A 42-year-old man was cut off by another driver and made "a hand signal" at the car in response, Const Turner said.

Both cars were stopped at a set of traffic lights when a passenger who had taken exception to the gesture got out with metal bat and proceeded to yell, swear and threaten the victim.

Inquiries are ongoing, Const Turner said.
