A senior stylist at Hair Co, Miss Meyer was judged first out of four competitors based on two cuts and colours.
She will go on to represent Dunedin at the national competition in Hamilton this July.
If Miss Meyer wins there she could be off to Brazil to represent New Zealand at the world championship.
Miss Meyer was pleased to have won and was looking forward to going to Hamilton.
Until July she would be doing a lot of practice and working with Dunedin judges to perfect her technique. She had also been checking out her potential competitors' work online.
The national championship would be ''much more hard core'' and Miss Meyer would need to practise applying make-up as well as cutting hair.
Originally from Roxburgh, Miss Meyer tried out hairdressing as part of the Gateway Programme and decided she liked it.
She did her apprenticeship at Hair Co in Mosgiel and five years later she is still there working as a senior stylist.
Hair Co owner Jan Gow was delighted Miss Meyer had done so well and supported her 100%.
