"It definitely provides vibrancy. The key word is vibrancy", Enterprise Dunedin director John Christie said.
The cruise ships Azamara Journey, and Sea Princess can carry up to 694 and 2000 passengers respectively, as well as 407 and 900 crew.
The Azamara Journey arrived at the port on Thursday morning; the other three vessels, including the container ship Hope Island, arrived yesterday.
Both cruise ships left yesterday evening.
Mr Christie said this was one of the busiest tourism weeks of the year, and several other factors had also contributed to the "vibrancy" of a busy port and city, including a big Robbie Williams concert this evening.
A great deal of work, including planning, and a whole-of-city approach had gone into helping to ensure the cruise ship visits worked well for all concerned, he said.
Otago Peninsula Trust marketing manager Sophie Barker, who chairs the Otago Chamber of Commerce tourism committee, said she believed this had been the busiest week of the year for Dunedin tourism.
Many people had worked "very, very hard" to help making the cruise industry successful in Dunedin, and Port Otago had done an "amazing" job in supporting the industry and ensuring that the new generation of much larger cruise ships were catered for at the port.
Many hundreds of cruise passengers had also visited the trust’s Royal Albatross Centre this week.
