There are three new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation to report in New Zealand today and no new cases in the community.

The Ministry of Health said that  10 previously reported cases have now recovered.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand is now 59 and the total number of confirmed cases is 1,968.

The total number of tests processed by laboratories to date is 1,567,952. On Tuesday our laboratories processed 2,845 tests. The seven-day rolling average up to yesterday is 3,750 tests processed.

The new cases arrived in the country on January 28 from Germany via Doha, January 30 from Tanazania via Qatar and February 7 from United Arab Emirates. All are in a managed isolation facility in Auckland.

The Ministry said none of the latest cases are connected to the managed isolation facility at the Pullman Hotel.

One previously reported case has been reclassified as under investigation.

Recovered cases

The 10 recovered cases to report today includes the previously reported border-related cases B, C and the case the ministry reported on Saturday who was later deemed a historical case. Case D is the only active case from this group and remains in a quarantine facility.

Historical cases

From this week Ministry of Health updates include a running total of historical cases to date for 2021.

This is because there is an increasing number of people becoming infected and recovering before travelling to New Zealand. Testing may detect residual viral material in people's systems, but it's important to reiterate they are no longer considered to be infectious.

As previously stated, an increase in historical cases is not unexpected.

Since January 1, there have been 25 historical cases, out of a total of 158 cases. These historical cases have all been previously reported.

The NZ COVID Tracer now has 2,562,034 registered users.
