Man charged with assaulting Campus Watch member

A 19-year-old Auckland builder was remanded in custody yesterday on charges including disorderly behaviour, threatening to injure a policeman and assaulting a Campus Watch staff member.

Etienne Nathan Duquemin did not appear in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.

He was remanded in custody by consent by justice of the peace Russell Atkinson and will appear in the Dunedin District Court on Tuesday.

Duquemin was charged with disorderly behaviour in Castle St on Thursday night; threatening to injure with intent to intimidate; and assault with intent to injure.

University of Otago proctor Dave Scott said the Campus Watch staff member was not seriously injured and  returned to finish his shift after seeking medical treatment.

"Campus Watch have a great rapport with students, with a relationship of mutual respect existing that is really valued. It is important for people to know that the offender for this matter is a non-student."
