Point Cut Barbershop coowner and head barber Remmy Kumar says he’s been super-busy — including a booked-out Saturday — since the shop opened in Jack’s Point last Tuesday.
Kumar, who ran his own barbershop in his native Yorkshire for eight years, says he and his co-owners — wife Nina, Leo Smith and Gemma Taylor — feel “very lucky and blessed” to have opened the first barbershop in the rapidly-growing southern corridor.
They’ve made the move at the “perfect place and perfect time”, offering convenience to Jack’s Point and Hanley’s Farm’s nine-to-five workers.
“That’s why we’ve decided to do late nights, and if you can’t make late nights, we’re open early on Saturday.”
Customers can walk to the shop from home, instead of fighting traffic, he says.
He’s offering a premium service, cuts for kids and over-65s, and “everything in between”.
Kumar says after he sold his barbershop in England in 2024 to go travelling with Nina, the couple ended up in Queenstown early last year.
They love the place so much they’re going for New Zealand residency.
He keeps the shop humming while Smith and Taylor look after the admin and “run the socials”, he says.
The shop, located in Unit 11/175 Maori Jack Rd, is open Tuesday to Friday from 11am till 7pm or 8pm, and all day Saturday.
