Committee members (from left) Carmel Hyndman, Nicola Simonsohn and Yeverley McCarthy spent Thursday decorating trees, hanging lights and turning the centre into a winter wonderland, in time for the grotto’s opening today.
Now in its fifth year, Santa’s Grotto continued to be popular with both young and old, Mrs McCarthy said.
She expected about 1500 to 2000 people to visit over the eight days it is open, which includes an adult-only night on Monday for those wishing to have a drink and enjoy the festivities without children.
Money raised from the event would go back into the various Upper Clutha communities, Mrs McCarthy said.
