Lyttelton Port said it was back up and running within 96 hours of Monday's Christchurch earthquakes.
Only coal exports remain affected four days after the quakes, which caused further damage to the port's infrastructure and facilities, as well as hampering repairs of previous quake damage, the port said today.
"It has taken a huge effort by staff and contractors to ensure that vital goods and commodities can move safely through the port," chief executive Peter Davie said.
