Snow warnings for some southern roads

Snow has prompted warnings for motorists on some South Island roads this morning.

The NZ Transport Agency says snow has been falling on the Haast Pass (State Highway 6) and says caution is advised.

The agency is also warning of ice on SH8 over the Lindis Pass and further north between Twizel and Fairlie.

MetService has snow warnings in place for the Crown Range road and the Milford road (SH94).

The Queenstown Lakes District Council says there is a "high chance" of ice across the district, and also advises motorists to drive to the conditions.

All main South Island highways were open at 8.30am.
