A man charged with murder after a woman died at Christchurch Airport has been granted interim name suppression.

The Christchurch woman was found at an Air New Zealand facility yesterday morning.

The man, also from Christchurch, made a brief appearance at the district court today with a large white bandage on his left arm and hand.

He is accused of murdering Bella Te Pania in the city yesterday.

A duty lawyer asked for interim name suppression while the accused told his family.

Judge Mark Callaghan granted the interim order, which was unopposed by police.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear at the High Court in Christchurch on February 7.

A homicide investigation began after Te Pania was found critically injured at a secured Air NZ facility.

Emergency services were called to Orchard Rd shortly before 6.50am, but the woman died a short time later, police said.

Police said they were not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.
