A Relative newcomer to the Lawrence area has beaten a long-time resident for a seat on the Lawrence-Tuapeka Community Board.
Rochelle Langley, who arrived in the town last year, narrowly edged out Ross Lyders in the by-election result, which was confirmed yesterday.
Ms Langley polled 226 votes, while Mr Lyders received 210 votes.
Clutha District Council returning officer Alan Dickson said the by-election attracted a 48.94% turnout of eligible voters, with 439 people taking the chance to have their say.
Ms Langley will be formally sworn in at the next board meeting on February 25.
The by-election was prompted by the resignation of first-term member Nick Salt, who cited concerns at how ineffective the board was in the community.
