Two  musicians will perform on two pianos in one venue in a series of concerts next week.

Alexandra's Sharon McLennan and Nelson-based Kemp English will join forces for the concerts entitled ‘‘Double Trouble''.

They will perform at Queenstown on August 13, Alexandra the following day, Oamaru on August 16 and Wanaka on August 17.

Concert organiser John Buchanan said although piano duets were reasonably common, two musicians performing on two separate pianos at the same concert was unusual.

‘‘It's very different and they'll be performing works specially written for two pianos,'' Mr Buchanan said.

‘‘It's quite hard to find two pianos in one site, so we're having to do a bit of organising to arrange it in some places.''

The works they would play included Mozart's Piano Sonata In D, Scaramouche by Milhaud, Le Grand Tango by Piazzola and a few surprises, he said.

‘‘I think people will be surprised . . . it's certainly not some serious, heavy, dry concert. It'll be good fun and there are some rumbas and tangos in there as well to liven things up.''

English and McLennan worked together at the Central Otago regional orchestra's performance of Carmina Burana in 2006 and for the orchestra's Mass of the Children last year.

Grants from the Central Otago Community Arts Council, the Community Trust of Otago and the Upper Clutha Community Arts Council has helped finance the concerts.

- Double Trouble will perform evening concerts in Queenstown on August 13, Alexandra on August 14, Oamaru on August 16 and an afternoon concern in Wanaka on August 17.
