NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said road users should prepare for delays on State Highway 6 between Cromwell and Queenstown as critical safety work at Nevis Bluff was due to start this month.
The work, scheduled to take place over four weeks, would be carried out from about 8am to 5pm weekdays beginning on Tuesday, October 28, and was expected to be completed by Friday, November 21.
NZTA maintenance contract manager for Central Otago Peter Standring said people driving on SH6 from Cromwell to Queenstown should allow an extra 10 minutes of travel time.
There would also be up to five days when delays of up to an hour would be necessary for blasting work.
Road users would be given as much advance notice about these blast closure days as possible.
As well as the Nevis Bluff work, reconstruction of SH8 at Stableburn, south of Millers Flat, was due to start soon.
The 3.1km stretch of the road would have initial roadworks and drainage improvements and that would be followed by four consecutive stages of road reconstruction, NZTA said.
The construction activities would take place on weekdays from 7am to 6pm with a full holiday break from December 19 to January 12.
Traffic would be managed through a single lane and road users could expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
It was expected the reconstruction would be completed by April 2026. — Allied Media
