More Oamaru residents have come forward following the arrest of three University of Otago students for allegedly stealing garden gnomes.

Sergeant Wayne Brew said Oamaru police had received "half a dozen" further complaints about missing gnomes, following news reports of the daylight raid.

Police were still to reunite several stolen gnomes with their owners, he said.

Two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with theft and are likely to appear in the Oamaru District Court this week.
