Invercargill city councillors have given the nod to five ‘‘shovel-ready’’ projects totalling more than $100million to stimulate the economy.

The council voted on Monday to request funding from Crown Infrastructure Partners that includes a $83million boost to the inner-city development.

The other projects are, in priority order, the Stead St stopbank, the Bluff master plan project, water mains renewal projects and the Civic Administration Building. The total request from government coffers amounts to $107.25 million.

The sum of all projects relating to the inner-city development has a capital spend of $270 million with about $30 million requested as a grant and the rest requested as a loan that would replace a bank loan in the short term.

A joint submission and project with Environment Southland relating to several stopbanks within the city, including one on Stead St, is also on the wish list.

Altogether, the projected cost is $22.7 million, or $15.5 million for the ICC.

It initially requested funding for $8.8 million, but this was increased to $11.35 million.

Interim parks manager Michele Frey said a request of $4.15 million on behalf of the Bluff Community Board for a series of projects in the Bluff master plan totalled $11.7 million.

‘‘We see that as an amount that will give us the best chance of succeeding through this process.’’

A total of $3.75 million was requested for the Branxholme pipeline renewal project.

Lastly, an application for a grant of $5million for renewal and renovation work on the Civic Administration Building estimated to cost $15.6million was submitted.

Building assets manager Paul Horner said the benefit would be the work could start in a fairly short period of time as well as provide work to locals.
