One person is dead and two people have been seriously injured in a crash in South Canterbury.
A St John spokesman said emergency services were notified about the two car crash on Waimate Highway (SH1), at Morven just after 7.30pm.
The crash happened at the intersection of Barnetts Rd and SH1.
A St John spokesman said three people were injured in the accident.
Two ambulances and two helicopters were deployed.
A person died at the scene and two people with serious injuries were flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital.
Local diversions were in place.
