Rebel Sport in Invercargill had no jerseys left while up in Gore the only sports store in town had been stripped down to just two — one child’s size and one XXXL.
Supplier, Paladin Sports had sold out of all adult sizes, account manager Josh Chamberlain said yesterday.
He said even without the shield, Stags supporters were passionate enough that Paladin Sports sold out of the team’s merchandise every season.
But after Sunday’s successful challenge there was a 300% increase in traffic on their website.
Southland beat Waikato to win the shield and will defend it — its first defence in more than a decade — against Canterbury on Saturday.
Gore’s B & B Sports shop owner Paul Blondell said the supplier had no more adult sizes left in the country.
After the win over Waikato on Sunday, almost all of Mr Blondell’s Stags jerseys sold within 24 hours.
Mr Blondell said immediately after the win, 14 customers jumped on to his online store and bought about 20 items.
On Monday, as soon as he opened the Main St store at 8.30am, people started coming in to buy up the rest of his stock.
He has made another order, but Paladin Sports can only offer children’s sizes. Adult sizes would have to be ordered from the offshore manufacturer.
"My hands are tied for two or three weeks."
The children’s items would hopefully arrive this week, he said.
Ironically, the Otago team uniforms, with embroidered Speight’s can patches, arrived yesterday, from Australian company Gilbert. — Additional reporting by Toni McDonald
