League: Rogers injured in Dragons win

Gold Coast centre Mat Rogers' season was hanging in the balance on Friday night after suffering a medial ligament injury in the Titans' 19-6 NRL loss to St George Illawarra.

Currently angling for a new deal with the Titans and linked with a possible return to Cronulla in 2011, Rogers was carried from Skilled Park after Dragons five-eighth Jamie Soward fell across his leg in the 26th minute while diving for a loose ball.

Initial fears were the dual international may have suffered a major injury to his left knee which could put his playing career in doubt.

He'll have scans today, with the Titans hoping the injury is not season-ending.

Dragons halfback Jamie Soward continued to push his State of Origin claims with a brilliant second-half try, three conversions and a field goal in a dominant performance to give St George Illawarra temporary ownership of the premiership lead on 10 competition points.

The Dragons led 6-0 at half time after a soft try to centre Matt Cooper, who produced a big fend on Titans defender Anthony Laffranchi out of dummy half.

The visitors extended their lead soon after half time when lanky second-rower Ben Creagh juggled a Soward bomb before video referee Steve Clark gave the green light.

Soward's try was a cracker off a lovely pass from halfback Ben Hornby.

Soward hit the pass at top speed, surging past Greg Bird and fullback Zillman who were left grasping at thin air.

His conversion, followed by a 35-metre field goal, gave them a 19-0 lead before replacement Titans forward Michael Henderson crashed over in the 77th minute for a consolation try.

It was a sweet victory for veteran Dragons hooker Luke Priddis in his 300th NRL game.

Dragons fullback Darius Boyd, a Gold Coast product, was great bringing the ball back in attack, and was named man of the match.

The Titans couldn't repeat their second half comeback that upset Melbourne last weekend.

Already missing halfback Scott Prince for another two weeks, the Titans will have to play Manly next Monday night without Rogers as well.
