Otago led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter but misfired over the final three, throwing sloppy passes and struggling to shut Auckland down.
Catherine Latu, the World 7 shooter, had a perfect game with 44 goals from 44 attempts for Auckland.
Otago must rebound qucikly as it plays defending champion Southland next weekend.
