The Clark Barron-trained mare did not give her rivals a look-in with freewheeling tactics in front.
The 4yr-old’s 2.01.5 winning time set a record for 4yr-old mares over 1700m.
The time was just 0.1sec outside the allcomers’ track record.
Yesterday’s dominant win showed Somejoy had bounced back from her disappointing last-start effort when she struggled on a sticky Winton track.
Earlier on the Northern Southland programme, Barron produced Giftofjoy to win over 1700m.
Driver Blair Orange handled the 3yr-old patiently before working her into the race from the 600m.
Both of Barron’s winners are descended from his good former racemare, Joyfulbelle, and are bred and raced by the Miracle Lodge syndicate which consists of the trainer and prominent owner Eric Parr.
Orange scored a treble on yesterday’s card when he won on the Nigel McGrath-trained pacers Gore Bay and Aloka.
Aloka strolled to the easiest of wins when he faced a line-up of pacers that paled into comparison to the fields of top 3yr-olds he has faced this season.
Orange landed the one-one with Gore Bay, despite the horse drawing the outside of the front line of the mobile.
Trainer Brett Gray and driver Brent Barclay combined for a winning treble on yesterday’s programme.
They produced Bettor B Ready to win race 3, Zealand Star to win race 6 and The Heart Rulz to win race 10.
