Racing: Cast Off Courage prevails

Cast Off Courage, who last raced in June, was successful at the Addington trials yesterday.

Cast Off Courage came from 20m to win by a half neck from Miss Elsie.

Cast Off Courage was driven by Stephen McNally, who trained the 5yr-old for four wins and two placings from his 12 starts.

The Courage Under Fire gelding is now prepared by his Leeston co-owner Brent White, who qualified the gelding before passing him on to McNally.

Miss Elsie was among the top 2yr-old fillies last season, recording two wins and three seconds from five starts.

Glenburn Zing, now trained by Trevor Harkness, won a trial at Oamaru yesterday.

The 8yr-old has not raced since June 2009.

He won three races when trained by Joanne Burrows, the most recent in October 2007.

Rhythmic Sun, a newcomer to the stable of Phil Williamson, also won a trial yesterdayBlacks A Fake is to have his next start in the Treuer Memorial at Bankstown on Saturday night.

Blakes A Fake became the richest stakes-winning standardbred in history with his second to Smoken Up in the Miracle Mile on Saturday night.

Blacks A Fake won the group one $A100,000 Treuer in 2006.

Washakie, who won the race last year, is among his rivals.

Melpark Major, who beat Smoken Up in the Popular Alm Sprint three starts back and Villagem in the VHRSC Classic at his last start on November 19 is to contest the Popular Alm Free-For-All at Melton tomorrow night.

The Iraklis 7yr-old has the $A100,000 Cranbourne Cup on December 11 and the $A425,000 Victoria Cup a week later on his agenda.

He won the Victoria Cup two years ago.

Stakes for the PGG Wrightson Sales Series for 3yr-olds have been increased $65,000.

The 3yr-old open pace at Alexandra Park on December 31 is up $10,000 to $260,000.

The 3yr-old fillies pace at Addington on March 25 has increased $25,000 to $175,000.

The race for 3yr-old trotters at Rangiora on March 3 is up $30,000 to $100,000.
