Empyrean, who recorded his first win at his second start at Addington yesterday, is the second foal of the talented racemare Sparks A Flyin.
Empyrean beat Breeders' Crown qualifier Amazing Art by a length.
Empyrean is a 2yr-old by Christian Cullen and is raced by his Christchurch breeders Jim and Susan Wakefield, from the stable of Cran Dalgety.
Diomedes (by McArdle), the first foal from Sparks A Flyin, has won eight races from the Dalgety barn.
Sparks A Flyin (by Sands A Flyin) won 21 races and $627,218 in stakes for the Wakefields from the Dalgety stable.
A deal to bring Auckland Reactor back to New Zealand has fallen through, The New Zealand Herald reports.
The major New Zealand stud, which is believed to have offered some $2 million for the 5yr-old, has withdrawn its offer.
It appears likely Auckland Reactor will require a wind operation if he is to race again.
