Racing: Flat races for jumpers

Gore trainer Ellis Winsloe will start both his jumpers, Kidunot and Ballaphun, on the flat at Gore today.

Kidunot will be turned out after the race while Ballaphun will continue racing on the flat for the next month.

"I don't expect Kidunot to perform well as the track is a heavy 11. He is fit and has had the work, so we will give him the run then turn him out.

"There are jumping races at Trentham coming up but we will bypass those," Winsloe said last night.

Kidunot has recorded nine wins but only one of those has been on the flat, at Oamaru in 2007.

The 9yr-old has won six hurdles and two steeplechases for stakes of $129,351.

His best wins have been the 2009 Waikato Hurdles and the Great Western Hurdles the same year.

"Ballaphun has won six races on the flat and does not mind the heavy ground so we will keep him going," Winsloe said.

Ballaphun was unplaced in his last flat race in August at Riccarton.

He has had three starts over fences since and has won his last two starts, both over hurdles.

The 10yr-old has earned $70,000 in stakes.

James McDonald will have his first ride on Banchee in the $70,000 Gold Trail Stakes at Hastings on Saturday.

McDonald rode the 3yr-old filly to win a trial on August 31.

The Jon Sargent-trained Banchee recorded three wins, a second and a third from six starts last season for stake earnings of $279,050.

She won the group one Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie and the group two Matamata Breeders' Stakes in the hands of Leith Innes.

She has not raced since April when she was unplaced in the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes.

Sir Slick is down to resume racing in the open 1200m at Hastings on Saturday.

The 9yr-old has not raced since finishing last in the Ipswich Cup on June 19.

Sir Slick has top weight of 60kg but will carry 56kg through being ridden by apprentice Bryce Holland.

Holland, who is apprenticed to Kevin Gray, has had 76 rides for one win.

Sir Slick has raced 125 times for 22 wins and 23 placings and $1,985,477.
