The may be causing Dexter Dunn headaches before and after his races, but Regulus is redeeming himself when it matters.

The 2yr-old Mach Three gelding - named after the brightest star in the constellation Leo - worked hard for his victory in the 2yr-old sires' stakes heat at Forbury Park last night, but was a handful for Dunn and the starter's assistants prior to the race, not showing much regard for personal space.

He then almost got tangled up with Explosive Art on the way back from his 1.59.4 mile rate win over the 1700m.

Dunn is prepared to put up with his antics, though, if he keeps winning like he did last night.

''I had to do a bit of work actually, because the parked horse attacked the leader when I was out three-wide,'' Dunn said.

''It was a pretty good run because he probably did the most work in the race.

''He's a wee bit of a dummy still, but he'll be all right.''

Regulus showed a hint of his ability in his run for third in the group 3 Kindergarten Stakes at Wyndham last month, although the lack of ringcraft was on display that day, too.

''He was just a bit green that day, and got checked out of it early. We were out of it after they went a slow quarter.''

A gear change in the mouth improved matters slightly, especially as the half-brother to Franco Hendrix was moving from the larger Wyndham track to the 1000m Forbury Park track.

''We changed a bit on him to make him steer a bit better,'' Dunn said.

''He gets in a bit on the bends just due to greenness.''

Now that Regulus has earned his spot in the group 1 sires' stakes final at Addington in May, trainer Cran Dalgety has options, but Dunn said there would be a close eye kept on Regulus, who is owned by loyal owners, Jim and Dr Susan Wakefield.

''Two-year-olds can get away on you a bit. If they start growing, they can go off [racing] but we'll aim for the big ones because that's where the money is.''

Gotta Go Cullect earned his first win as a sire when Offtocullect looped the field to win the 2yr-old and older non-winners pace over 2200m.

Offtocullect has given trainer-driver Mark Jones enough indication in his work at home in Burnham to shake off any concerns about his barrier draw of 14 last night.

''We were doubtful about coming down, [after drawing] the outside of the second row, but you can't blame a bad draw until after the race, so we took our chance,'' Jones said.

''He's always shown a lot of potential. He's a funny-gaited horse, but he's always showed good toughness.

He's unbeaten at the work-outs, so luckily he franked that on race day.''

Gotta Go Cullect won five of his nine starts before going astray with a tendon injury, but his impeccable breeding (by Christian Cullen out of Elect To Live) ensured he had a stallion career. He has had three other starters to the races prior to Offtocullect's win last night.
