Trainers have been reminded of their obligations to ensure bandages on horses are securely fastened.
The reminder has been issued by chief stipendiary steward Cameron George following the win of Planet Rock in the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas at Riccarton on Saturday with a loose bandage streaming from her right front leg.
"This could have resulted in a dangerous incident," George said.
"A rider in Queensland lost his life after a horse fell. It has been reported the cause of the horse falling was due to loose bandages." George said plaster bandages must be stitched and other types of bandages had to be securely fastened to the satisfaction of the stipendiary stewards.
Queensland jockey Corey Gilby died from injuries he suffered in a fall on Saturday AAP reports.
Gilby suffered the injuries when he fell from a horse he was galloping after the last race at Julia Creek in Queensland.
He was placed on life support at Townsville Base Hospital where he died on Sunday night.
A stewards' inquiry is under way into the incident with reports claiming the horse came down and rolled on Gilby.
