10-a-side for those at loose end

The premier colts grade wraps up on Saturday when University and Kaikorai contest the final.

But for those at a loose end during the next two weekends there will still be rugby to play.

Otago Rugby Football Union community rugby manager Richard Perkins said the teams were playing a 10-a-side tournament.

However, there will be no colts rugby during the university holidays. The colts grade has been split into two separate competitions this season.

The grade will resume on July 14 with seeding games for a knockout-style tournament which will conclude on August 4.

Perkins said the colts format was changed this season to better reflect the reality of staging tournaments in a university city.

It will be reviewed post-season.

It was hoped the colts final would be staged as a curtain-raiser for tomorrow's Super Rugby game between the Highlanders and the Hurricanes at Forsyth Barr Stadium. But it fell through because of scheduling and funding.
