Former Highlanders and All Black winger Waisake Naholo has made a great start to his new career in England.

Naholo, who scored 45 tries in 62 games for the Highlanders, becoming the leading try-scorer for the franchise in the process, has joined London Irish for the next two years.

The 28-year-old made his starting debut for the promoted club in the English Premiership over the weekend and helped himself to a try.

Naholo scored his try in the second half when he got on the end of a cross-kick from halfback Nick Phipps and managed to muscle his way over the line.

Naholo started on his favoured right wing for London Irish, which had a resounding win, beating Leicester 36-11 at home at Madejski Stadium after leading 22-6 at halftime.

London Irish won promotion last year after winning the second-tier championship.

Phipps, an Australian international halfback, has also joined the side for this season.

Meanwhile, the pain continues for Lima Sopoaga at Wasps.

Sopoaga joined Wasps last season in a big-money deal.

He failed to fire last year as Wasps did not make it to the playoffs in the Premiership.

Wasps has been slow out of the blocks this season and is second-bottom of the table with just one win from four games.

It lost to Sale 28-18 in the weekend with Sopoaga starting at first five-eighth.

Former Highlanders centre Malakai Fekitoa has joined Sopoaga at Wasps this season but he did not play at the weekend.
