Otago dominant in 14-15 girls grade

Otago's class in the 14-15 girls grade was on show at Moana Pool over the weekend.

It was in that age-grade it was most dominant at the Neptune Queen's Birthday swim meet.

The meeting continues to attract a large contingent from around the South Island and many Canterbury clubs sent down large squads.

Neptune's Erika Fairweather headlined the success, carrying on her exploits from the national stage.

She claimed gold in all five of her individual events, while also winning a gold and bronze in the relays.

In the mixed 15-and-over 4x100 freestyle she was joined by Ben Carr, Tom Gold and Sean Diggle to take gold.

Carr, Gold and Fairweather were also in the medley team, while Eli Familton joined them to claim bronze.

Fairweather was followed by several Otago competitors in the majority of her wins.

In both 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly, Taieri's Jemma Wilson and Zenith's Charlotte Hewson claimed second and third respectively.

They were similarly close behind in the 200m freestyle, although Ashburton's Bree Middleton slotted in second.

In the 200m IM, Kiwi's Madison Wills came second, behind Fairweather and ahead of Wilson.

It was one of three seconds for Wills, who won both the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Wilson nabbed a total of six top three placings, claiming victory in the 50m breaststroke.

Zenith's Meg Christophers also managed success, winning both the 100m and 200m butterfly in the grade.

In the 16-and-over grade there were was further success.

Neptune's Caitlin Deans won the 100m freestyle and 200m butterfly. She had to work for the 200m butterfly victory though, edging clubmate Jessica Scott by 0.02sec.

It was one of four second-places Scott managed, while breaking through to win the 200m freestyle.

Taieri's Jordan Summers also had a successful weekend, bagging five medals including winning the 50m backstroke.
