Ngai Tahu-owned low-cost health centre Te Kaika is set to boost its presence in Brockville.

Te Kaika leases the former Brockville Community Church from the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa.

Te Kaika health hub co-founder Albie Laurence said the building had been used for their Covid-19 response.

"We had our Pataka Ka, our food bank, there so we were using the whole church, including the hall."

Now it was being refitted as a call centre for their 0800 Covid-19 information number.

Locally hired staff are being trained on the system, and it was set to open shortly.

The health centre was expecting that there would be more Covid-19 cases in the community so the call centre would be able to provide support and information, Mr Laurence said.

The centre was planning drive-through testing sites across the region including Southland, Invercargill, Queenstown, Dunedin and Oamaru.

"So anyone who wants a covid swab they can just turn up for a drive-through and ring the 0800 number which will be free for them to ring and just give their details."
