Construction of the Mosgiel pool is approaching major milestones.

Seven large steel beams to support the roof and walls of the pool building will be installed this month and next.

Dunedin City Council parks and recreation group manager Scott MacLean said timber purlins constructed inside the existing pool building will be fitted to the steel to carry the roof panels.

‘‘Over the next few weeks there will be more visual developments as concrete slabs are poured for the administration and amenities area and plant room and preparation of the first of the pool bases begins,’’ Mr MacLean said.

‘‘While this work is progressing, there will be further painting of the steel structure, installation of the lower precast concrete cladding panels along the park side and sump lines will be put in for two of the new pools.’’

The Taieri Community Facilities Trust planned to put up a pool builders’ wall on the temporary fences around the building site.

The wall project was an initiative to encourage people to donate money to get their name, their family name or business name on a wall.

The pool complex will have five indoor pools, including a spa pool, and is due to open mid-2023.
