Sheep dog training skills to be shared

Prominent sheep dog triallist Lloyd Smith will share his skills at a training day this month.

The Palmerston dog triallist and trainer, who has won five New Zealand titles and five island championships with dogs he has trained, runs training days throughout the country.

He has also represented New Zealand in transtasman tests and judged two New Zealand championships.

He works with huntaways and heading dogs.

Mr Smith is also author of Pup Pen to Paddock, a guide to rearing and training sheep dogs, and has helped produce a DVD demonstrating his methods.

The training day will be at Caberfeidh Station, Hakataramea Valley, on September 19, starting at 10am.

The $10 fee includes lunch and funds raised will go to a local organisation, organisers said.
