Real estate board decision next week

A decision is expected next week from the independent Real Estate Agents Licensing Board on allegations two Dunedin property managers took money from their employer.

The board met in Dunedin this month to hear the allegations, laid by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, but the accused elected not to attend the hearing. Censure could include the revocation of licences.

Yesterday, affected parties and industry representatives declined to comment until the decision is released. A file from the board had since been passed to Dunedin police, who confirmed yesterday an investigation had just begun.

The licensing board, appointed by the Minister of Justice, sat in Dunedin on May 5. A spokeswoman for the board said yesterday a decision would likely be made public next week.

Depending on the outcome, the decision would then be subject to a 28-day appeal period.
