
Strong wool reached a new high of $7.60 per kg last week — likely only shadowed in real terms by auction highs of the 1980s once inflation adjusted.
The next national sale is rostered for 8500 bales on July 8, with little turnaround time for the following sale of about 9500 bales on July 15.
A smaller national flock combined with low supplies in farms sheds and warehouses resulting in full auction clearances and strong demand from China and India has put the heat on prices.
PGG Wrightson auction manager Dave Burridge said the past season had been a great result and the sale would provide an indication if prices were to hold.
A full clearance at an auction seldom happened, but had occurred consistently the past season, he said.
Wool prices were at a point, when combined with red meat values, where farmers could reinvest back into their properties, he said.
