Faces from a Dunedin family business grace the cover of the 92,900 phone books being distributed throughout the province today.

The new Otago Yellow Pages features the story and picture of Foleys Dunedin director Craig Foley and marketing manager Tracy Pleasants.

Mrs Pleasants said the exposure for the 84-year-old plumbing, electrical, gasfitting, drainlaying and mechanical business was "exciting".

"Craig is getting quite a bit of grief from his friends - he's loving it."

Mr Foley was the third generation of the family to run the business and his son was an apprentice, she said.

"I still think that's an important part of who we are. We have nine branches and 182 staff, but at the heart of our values is family. I think that's quite a rarity among service companies these days."

The company was approached by Yellow New Zealand for the cover as part of a rebrand involving a focus on "successful local businesses".

Otago is one of several regions this year where the White Pages and Yellow Pages will be separate publications.

Residents will have to "opt in" online to receive the White Pages.

Southland's Yellow Pages will be delivered next May.
