Two inner-city blocks’ buildings will become 55,000 tonnes of debris to make way for the new Dunedin Hospital.
Health Minister David Clark said there would be changes around town.
"We won’t see dust and we won’t see traffic disruption immediately, but that stuff will come with time."
Christchurch construction and demolition firm Ceres is the main demolition contractor.
Operations manager Swaroop Gowda said it was estimated there would be "at peak" a workforce of 40 demolition workers.

IMO pathetic building it in the same area - its not like Dunedin is short of land like Singapore or Hong kong, Narrow minded councillors who pushed for this who are empire building. Having the Hospital in the same place and not really progressing Dunedin at all. Surely some of the old Cadbury's buildings /site could have been utilised for something else such as an indoor markets, Indoor Sports, GoKarts, Mini Golf a park with coffee shops.
The hospital's roles has already shrunk, I expect it will further have its roles removed.
Unfortunately Dunedin is dying under these clowns.
