Lindsay Lohan's father arrested in New York

Authorities on New York's Long Island say Lindsay Lohan's father is accused of violating an order of protection by calling his estranged girlfriend.

Suffolk County prosecutors say Michael Lohan was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor charge of criminal contempt. They say the alleged phone call was made on Sunday morning.

In June, a judge said Michael Lohan would avoid prosecution on a misdemeanor charge of aggravated harassment if he stayed out of trouble for a year. Lohan denied that he threatened to kill his girlfriend and himself if she left him.

Lohan's attorney says his client is the victim of fabricated claims. He says the ex-girlfriend called Lohan. Lohan is due back in court on January 8.

The actress reportedly is estranged from her father.
