Over the past few months, the Man Cave vs She Shed Challenge has been quietly taking place in Dunedin.
Two prominent national celebrities have stepped up to the challenge of designing their own perfect Man Cave and She Shed.
The identities of the two contestants will be revealed in The Mix over the coming weekends. But rest assured that they have both been beavering away in a dedicated fashion towards making their respective sheds the best imaginable.
Both have been given identical standard design sheds on which to impose their personal visions.
Measuring 3.6m by 2.4m, with a lean-to roof, the blank slates have been radically customised by the contestants, with a budget of $10,000 each.
The sheds have to be fully liveable in all seasons, and so will be weatherproof and insulated.
Cooke Howlison Holden has provided new Colorados for all of the heavy lifting.
PlaceMakers Dunedin has provided all the materials for the construction of the sheds, while Otago Polytechnic teachers and students from the pre-trade carpentry course have been involved in putting them together.
Graham Burgess, programme manager at Otago Polytechnic, said “the team is really enjoying this project as the construction process is different from the house-build projects they are currently working on”.
The two celebrities taking part in The Man Cave vs She Shed Challenge have each had free rein to impose their personalities on the sheds, deciding where the doors and windows will be, and the exteriors and interiors.
Allied Press commercial manager Matthew Holdridge says that the impressive end results will inspire many Great Kiwi Home and Living Show visitors to think “I could build something like this!”
The sheds will be revealed at the show on Saturday November 5, and will then be auctioned by LJ Hooker at 2pm on Sunday November 6.
The proceeds of their sale will go to charities of the celebrities’ choice, which will be announced over the coming weeks.
